View while sitting underneath the oldest tree on Rensing Center property, an art residency in South Carolina. The barn houses recycled materials for art projects and provides a safe shelter and feeding area for the goats. If you walk through the barn to pet the goats, you find yourself inside the beautiful sloping fenced grazing area that makes up the majority of the 26 acre property.
Growing up in the rolling hills of Missouri, I've traveled to most states in the U.S. and painted along the way. I love being in nature and try to visit state parks along my travel routes. I work mostly in my studio, using field studies and photo references pulled from places I have visited. In creating these works, I sometimes embrace, sometimes abandon color theory while building an ever growing alphabet of marks that represent foliage, trees, buildings and the sky. I juxtapose these marks with textures, tones, and line to build a compressed space, create the illusion of great distances, and generate an energized surface crackling with potential.
